1 Studio

The studio approaches exhibition and stage design through the relationship between a subject, its setting and the people who encounter it.

A visitor route, the position of an object or a change in light can shape how a narrative is understood. These decisions are developed in response to the material of each project and the conditions of its site.

Founded by set and exhibition designer Karolina Fandrejewska, the Warsaw-based practice brings together work in museums, performance and public interiors.

Projects are developed with curators, directors and institutional teams, alongside architects, graphic designers, multimedia specialists and contractors. The composition of the project team responds to the commission; individual responsibilities are recorded in the project credits.

  1. 01Reading of site, institution, collection, context and visitor movement.
  2. 02Translation of curatorial, historical and narrative material into spatial sequence.
  3. 03Coordination of architecture, light, material, graphics, objects, sound and scent.
  4. 04Development from conceptual direction to implementation documentation and exhibition installation.

Work can include spatial concepts, exhibition layouts, display systems, material specifications, graphic and multimedia coordination, implementation documentation and installation support.

The scope is agreed for each commission, taking account of conservation requirements, accessibility, technical constraints and visitor circulation.

Museum projects include work for the Fryderyk Chopin Museum, Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, the National Library and the Museum of Warsaw.

Performance work includes productions for the Polish Royal Opera, the Grand Theatre in Łódź and Teatr Polonia, as well as television theatre and film.
