Practical beauty. KUL by Maria Chomentowska
The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Lublin, Poland, 2013
Marking the fifth anniversary of Maria Chomentowska's death, this first monographic exhibition of her work was prepared by the Museum of the Catholic University of Lublin in collaboration with its art history students. It examined the contribution of the furniture and interior designer to Polish functionalism and to the design culture of the Institute of Industrial Design.
Alongside celebrated furniture such as the Spider and Lungs chairs, the exhibition considered her extensive work for the university. Over four decades, Chomentowska developed several dozen projects for its public spaces, including the main building, the John Paul II College, the student residence on Niecała Street, the manor at Poczekajka and the creative retreat in Kazimierz Dolny.
