Sapientia aedificavit sibi domum ”Wisdom Has Built Herself a Home” The Teutonic state in Prussia.
The Malbork Castle Museum, Malbork, Poland, 2019
Several hundred exhibits brought together the ideological and practical dimensions of Teutonic rule in Prussia. Though apparently opposed, these strands jointly shaped a state governed at its height by several hundred members of the Order.
Malbork Castle provided both the setting and a central subject of the exhibition. Its gradual transformation from a conventual fortress into the capital of a powerful state offered a means of examining the nature of Teutonic authority and the changing significance of the castle itself.
